Anatomy of an alert rule

Getting started · 2 min read · from the Veni help library

Every alert rule on the Alerts page is a single card with the same layout, whichever domain it belongs to. Once you know how to read one card, you know how to read them all.

The toggle and severity chip

On the left edge is an on/off switch; a disabled rule is dimmed and no longer contributes to your dashboard. Next to the rule's name is a severity chip you can click to flip between Attention and For info. Attention rules are the ones meant to interrupt you; For info rules are lower-priority context.

The plain-English sentence

Below the name is a sentence describing exactly what the rule watches for, written in plain language with the tunable numbers shown as small editable chips inline (for example, a number of days or a count threshold). Click into a chip and type a new value; it commits when you click away or press Enter.

Each chip has its own minimum and maximum, so you can't set a threshold outside the range the rule supports.

Notify and scope

Beneath the sentence, a Notify row shows two channel checkboxes: In-app and Email. Toggle either on or off to control how you're notified when the rule fires. Farther right, a button shows the rule's scope, either All buildings or a count like "3 buildings"; clicking it opens a picker where you choose All buildings in this organization or Only selected buildings, checking off the ones you want.

The live preview and delete

At the bottom of the card, a line reads "Right now this rule flags N items" (or "Nothing flagged right now") reflecting the rule's current thresholds and scope against live data, so you can see the effect of a change before you commit to it. A Delete link at the right of the Notify row removes the rule entirely after a confirmation prompt.

Deleting a rule is permanent. If you just want to pause it, use the on/off toggle instead.
